Design and Evaluation of a New Multicast Protocol in Micro-Mobility Environments*

چکیده
To reduce the control message overhead due to frequent handoffs in mobile IP, micro-mobility protocols have been proposed. In this paper we present a new approach for providing multicast services in micro-mobility environments. The proposed protocol builds a shared multicast tree around a core. When a node moves to a new cell, it is attached to the tree using the remote subscription mechanism if necessary. But with an efficient packet forwarding mechanism the packet loss during hand-offs is minimized. The performance of the protocol is evaluated through simulation. Telecommunication Networks Group Design , Implementation and Performance of Multicast - Based Paging for IP Mobility
Originally, paging has been used in cellular networks to alert a mobile station of an incoming call within a paging area comprised of several cells. Today’s most popular usage of paging is the exchange of short messages. With growing importance of all-IP mobile networks it is expected that an IP paging service will prevail. This report studies the usage of paging in IP-based networks to search ...
متن کاملMobility support in IP cellular networks: a multicast based approach
Today’s cellular communication networks offer seamless mobility support but are based on a homogeneous networking technology and a complex voice-oriented networking infrastructure. The Internet technology is expected to cause a paradigm shift in cellular communication networks. Mobile IP is the classical solution to support host mobility, but faces a number of disadvantages, including triangula...
متن کاملA new wireless ad hoc multicast routing protocol
An ad hoc network is a multi-hop wireless network of mobile nodes without the intervention of fixed infrastructure. Limited bandwidth and mobility require that ad hoc routing protocols be robust, simple, and energy conserving. This paper proposes a new ad hoc multicast routing protocol called neighbor-supporting multicast protocol (NSMP). NSMP adopts a mesh structure to enhance resilience again...

Mobile Internet Protocol version 6 (MIPv6) has been proposed to solve the problem of mobility in the new era of Internet by handling routing of IPv6 packets to mobile nodes that have moved away from their home network. Users will move frequently between networks, as they stay connected to the Internet. Thus, as mobility increases across networks, handovers will significantly impact the quality ...
متن کاملMobile IP-based Multicast as a Service for Mobile Hosts
There is an increasing need to support user mobility in today's computing environments. The incorporation of multicast routing support in a mobile computing environment presents several challenges. Of special interest are mobile multicast schemes suitable for TCP/IP networks in general, and the Internet in particular. This paper outlines a design of network layer modules in a 4.3 BSD UNIX TM sy...
